WHEREAS, the State of Alaska recognizes the alpaca as bona fide livestock.
WHEREAS, Alaska will celebrate with other states of this great United States in recognizing September 29, 2007, as National Alpaca Farm Day in America.
WHEREAS, the alpaca, known world wide for its luxurious fiber is increasing in numbers of livestock and breeding farms dedicated to the raising of the alpaca in the State of Alaska.
WHEREAS, Alaska recognizes and celebrates the farmer who prepares, maintains, and provides proper husbandry for the alpaca in Alaska.
WHEREAS, the alpaca being an earth friendly species allows farmers to maintain green space and keep the family farm in existence while we anticipate the emergence of a national alpaca textile industry.
WHEREAS, the last weekend in September as proclaimed by the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association, Inc., as National Alpaca Farm Day in America, hereby makes it known that all citizens of Alaska should recognize and celebrate this special animal and join the Hidden Birch Alpaca Farm and other owners and breeders of the alpaca in their festival and farm day celebrations as they may be proclaimed.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim September 29, 2007, as:
Alpaca Farm Day
in Alaska, and encourage citizens to recognize the emerging value of the alpaca to our state, to affirm our commitment to retaining the family farm, and joining all the breeders and owners of the alpaca all over the United States of America to recognize this special livestock.
